Despite a poor rookie campaign, Blake Bortles remains the quarterback of the future for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jake Lockers run with the Tennessee Titans may have come to an end after getting hurt again last weekend. Bortles is hoping to play through a foot injury tonight against the visiting Titans, who havent tasted victory since beating the Jaguars in Week 6. Selected No. 3 overall in this years draft, Bortles has thrown eight touchdowns and 15 interceptions over 11 starts since replacing Chad Henne. The former UCF standout owns the NFLs second-worst passer rating at 70.6, and hes been sacked a league-high 41 times since Oct. 9. A lot of them are on me, Bortles said. Some are on the offensive line. Its on the whole offense. Its football, so you better be used to getting hit. In college, you can run around and do more stuff, but in the NFL guys are a lot faster and stronger. So its a little more difficult. You want to be able to get rid of the ball and live another down, not lose 5, 10 yards on third down and create longer field-goal situation. Those are definitely things Im working on. Bortles expects to play despite suffering a sprained right foot in last Sundays 20-12 loss at Baltimore. He completed 21 of 37 passes for 210 yards with an interception and was sacked a season-high eight times. A couple more days and hopefully it will be fine, he said Monday. Doing all kinds of stuff, trying to get back and ready as quick as possible. Locker, meanwhile, was placed on injured reserve after dislocating his non-throwing shoulder late in the first half of last Sundays 16-11 defeat to the New York Jets. The eighth overall pick in 2011 whose contract is up at the end of the season, Locker missed 14 of 32 starts due to a slew of injuries over the previous two seasons. To me, hes a true pro, coach Ken Whisenhunt said. Hes a great teammate, works hard and you obviously feel badly for Jake just from the standpoint of having to have surgery and his season being over. With rookie Zach Mettenberger also out with a shoulder injury, the Titans will again turn to Charlie Whitehurst, who went 10 of 24 for 203 yards after replacing Locker last week. Whitehurst has an 84.9 passer rating while going 1-2 as a starter this season, with that lone victory coming 16-14 over Jacksonville on Oct. 12. I feel good about Charlie and what hes done. ... He started against Jacksonville the last time and played a pretty good game, Whisenhunt said of Whitehurst, who finished 17 of 28 for 233 yards against the Jaguars. Hes been a great support in the room, and we have confidence in him that when he plays hes going to be successful. Bortles threw for a season-high 336 yards and a touchdown as Jacksonville compiled a season-high 379 total yards, but Tennessee recorded six sacks and blocked a potential game-winning 55-yard field goal with 12 seconds left. The Titans have since been outscored by 13.8 points per game in dropping their last eight - their longest skid since the 1994 Houston Oilers lost 11 in a row. Tennessee has been limited to an average of 15.5 points while allowing 33.7 during a six-game losing streak on the road. The ground game has been an issue for the Titans on both sides of the ball. Theyre allowing an NFL-worst 139.6 rushing yards per game, and theyve averaged a league-low 64.8 themselves over the last 10 weeks. Jacksonville hasnt been much better, rushing for an average of just 85.0 yards over the last five games. The two teams combined for 152 rushing yards on 47 attempts in October. Cecil Shorts had a career-high 10 catches for 103 yards that day, his second 100-yard effort in three meetings against the Titans. Tennessee is hoping to get wideout Kendall Wright back after a two-game absence due to a hand injury. Tight end Delanie Walker leads the Titans with a career-high 793 receiving yards to rank fourth in the league at his position. Tennessee, seeking a fourth win in five matchups in the series, is 11-8 all-time in Jacksonville. He was second on the line with 72 tackles and had a career-high three sacks. Ronnie Lott Super Bowl Jersey . -- New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft wanted to keep Logan Mankins with the team for a long time.SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Joe Pavelski jumped into the team points lead after scoring twice and assisting on two other goals. Not that he was paying much attention. Pavelski scored two power-play goals, helping the San Jose Sharks remain unbeaten at home with a 6-3 victory over the Calgary Flames on Saturday night. "There are three, four, five guys like that here," Pavelski said. "Its so early in the season for that." Brent Burns, Scott Hannan, Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture also scored for the Sharks, who have won their first five at home. "We have a great comfort level here," Sharks captain Joe Thornton said. "We come out strong, heavy and jump on teams. Were aggressive from the drop of the puck." Sean Monahan, Mikael Backlund and Jiri Hudler scored for the Flames, who lost their second straight after opening the season 4-0-1. "This is by far the best team we have played," Calgary coach Bob Hartley said. "At the same time it was the worst game weve played. We made some bad decisions that cost us some goals. We made bad decisions and went to the box for unnecessary reasons and there was a little bad luck." Antti Niemi stopped 16 of 19 shots to record his 11th career win over the Flames, his most against any team. It was also his 100th as a Shark. Karri Ramo, making his first start since the season opener, made 30 saves. "Five goals, you cant be happy about that," Ramo said. "I felt like I was a little bit behind. When you keep giving them power plays, they are going to hurt you." The Sharks were 3 of 9 on the power play and have scored 11 times over their last 36 chances. "The power play was huge," Thornton said. "Especially in the third period, when they got two quick goals on us. It was good to respond." Burns gave the Sharks, who are 8-2-1 against Calgary in their past 11 meetings, the early lead with an easy tap from in front of the nnet.dddddddddddd Pavelski beat Kris Russell to a puck in the corner and fed a wide-open Burns less than a minute into the contest. "Its always fun scoring on the first shift," Pavelski said. Hannan made it 2-0 in the final minute of the first period with a long shot. Monahan put the Flames on the board with a power-play goal early in the second period. Sven Baertschi fed him the puck from behind the net, making it easy to beat Niemi. Pavelski and Marleau, who has a goal in five straight games, each scored on power plays -- both getting an assist on the others score -- to give the Sharks a 4-1 edge heading into the third period. "The first one I kind of set up in front of the net and Pavey gave me an outstanding pass through the box," Marleau said. The Flames scored twice in the first four minutes of the final period to pull to 4-3. Lee Stempniak took a shot that bounced off Niemis pads directly to Backlund, who notched the short-handed goal before the Sharks goalie cold recover. Hudler scored two minutes later after taking a nice crossing pass from Monahan. Pavelski redirected Coutures shot for a power-play goal midway through the third period to put the Sharks on top 5-3. "Pav was in a great spot," said Couture, who wore the A on his uniform for the first time. "Weve worked on that play with the puck coming off the board and I just tried to get it to him." Couture added an empty-netter with 1:22 remaining to play. NOTES: Burns missed a penalty shot in the first period as Ramo made a stick save on the near post. ...
